This was our first visit to a structured reading time since the age requirements are 19 months to 28 months. Caroline just turned 19 months and we were the youngest by 4 months... and boy could you tell it! She was a complete wiggle worm and DID NOT want to sit in my lap and listen when there were so many other children to go say "HIIII!" to. It was borderline traumatic for Mommy! ha! So while all of the other children were doing this...
After chasing her around twice I took her outside and informed her that we WOULD be leaving if she did not sit still and pay attention. I honestly think that Caroline is just a bit too young, but the other mothers in the class and the teacher were extremely supportive and told us to give it a few weeks. Other mothers told me that their children reacted the same way for the first few weeks and to just hang in there... it will get better. So, we will see!
We actually had a wonderful time... once we finished the "reading of the books" part. After that they got to do a "shake the bean bag" dance and she was an ALL-STAR at that! Just don't ask my uber-active child to sit still!! After dancing, they had a snack(cookies!) and did a little craft project to go along with the theme for the week, which was pirates!
This is the super cute pirate hat that they made. Caroline even put the stickers on herself! Where's Pirate Caroline??
The best part of the entire experience... it was FREE! That's right! So Birmingham Moms, get on it!!! You have to call ahead of time and sign up, you just give them your child's first name and pick a time, but we had fun and will go back again next week! Lets just hope Caroline gets her morning run out before we get to the Library!;-)
